Ratio of male to female boesemani
What would you all recommend as the ideal ratio of males/females for boesemani rainbows? Now that my six have settled in and colored up, I have two males and four females. I would like to switch out some females for more males but not if its going to cause fighting. What do you all think? Thanks!!

If you are going to switch out some females, you should switch them all out for males. Otherwise keep male:female at 1:2.

Ok great thank you. I will think about it.... I feel bad taking them back!! Good to know I should switch all the females if I do any switching.

I would keep the females because they will encourage the males to display their best color's. Get at least one more male. Heres a video you might enjoy.

Nothing is wrong with what you have right now. Nothing wrong with 2 F to 1 male.

Good point LH, I was trying to be diplomatic LOL.
Sounds kind of like the line from the old Jan and Dean song " two girls for every guy".Last edited by steeler1; 11-26-2012 at 05:48 AM.

I would keep either 2 F to 1 Male or all males. The males are all prettier.

Ok thanks you two. I think at this point we have decided to just let them be, and keep what we have. I certainly don't want to cause any fighting or overcrowding as they get bigger - which I am looking forward to! Right now they seem to be doing well - in the mornings the boys get all puffed up and flashy, flirt with their girls and chase each other off, but nothing aggressive.
Thanks for all the input!

What size aquarium do you have, and is it working well with your six?
