Tiari has given very good advice - you should also know that there is no need to keep water waiting in a pitcher - once water conditioner is added, it instantly removes chlorine. Very smart to use a pitcher just for the fish.

You're doing great! Just keep up the maintenance, and hopefully you will find your bigger tank.
I always takes a while to educate yourself on something new. There is always a mistake or two, so know that it's common for there to be learning curve and you won't know it all right away.
I think we know what you'll be asking for for Christmas!!Beth

My advice: slow down, think, and be willing to learn. Then you'll be fine, no matter what.

Reply to Andrea,
The reason I put the water in the pitcher is so it can get to room temperature before I use it. Don't want to add temperature shock to everything else baby's having to deal with. I understand that the water is safe chemically as soon as the conditioner is added.
Tiari, I am continuing with the water changes and the fin clamping has stopped.
Beth, thank you for the encouragement.
If y'all can think of anything else you've run into with Betta care and want to share it with me, go right ahead. I enjoy learning, and would like to know more about common mistakes ahead of time so I don't have to repeat them. :-)
Thanks again to everyone for all the help!!!!
