Hundreds of koi scooped from Colorado lake
Just thought this might be interesting.
Do you think these are really Koi or just common goldfish?

the ones that the warden was dumping in the bucket look like goldfish to me, although there probably were both species.

This is a sad, and all too common occurrence. I don't know why it is so hard for people to just take the fish back to a pet store...
In Florida, people do the same but not only with fish, they also release the pet snake they bought when it was just a cut 1 foot little thing and got unmanageable when it reached 10+ feet. Right now there are native populations of reticulated pythons and burmese pythons in the everglades, not only competing for the same food sources with gators, but also killing gators.
The Humane Society has been wanting, for a long time, to ban the reptile trade for this reason, among others, or at least require people to get a license. At first I disagreed, but now, I don't know.
I think it all boils down to people not doing proper research before buying an animal and some pet stores selling just about anything to anyone without knowing a thing.
