types of moss.

I am looking to put moss in my 29 gallon on some driftwood. But I don't know very much about the types of moss there are. I really want a fuzzy kind of moss but all I see is stringy types of moss. Am I crazy in thinking that there are fuzzy kinds of moss?

I get 'stringy' [IE: Java moss] But I a not sure what you mean by fuzzy, Post some pictures of what you refer to please as your descriptions are subjective.

IE: Are Marimo moss balls 'fuzzy'?

Yes, like Marimo Moss Balls. The seem fuzzy and won't take over a tank.

I looked at Phoenix Moss and it just seems to leafy for me; how big are the fronds on that moss? How long are the strings that branch away from the base?

Marimo moss balls are actually algae and will not adhere to anything like java moss because there is no root structure. You could, however, cut it up and tie it to the wood.

Yeah I know that about Marimo, but I like that texture. Heres a better explanation of what I would like to see: I want a moss that will stay short and close to the surface it is attached too. Like willow moss grows out too far and looks like string or hair algae to me.

Maybe this is a better explanation?

The second place winner in this competition is entitled "Awakening" and he is using Java Moss. It looks so close cropped and nice looking! (you can click the picture to enlarge it) It looks close knit and tidy. Does he do this by trimming it back and keeping it nice like that or does it stay naturally close to the driftwood?
