you could just lower the water level a bit and make sure the filter has more splash to it... same effect.

So I am worried about something. My ammonia was almost gone today but there were no nitrites in the tank. But that bugger is GREEN and I mean scary monster green. You can hardly see through it. But I have my reef light system on the top of the tank so I imagine that is not help the situation. I was planning on swapping it for my 30inch two bulb t5 fixture instead, to cut back on the wattage of the lights. Should I not put a light on at all, to cut back on algae taking over the supply of Ammonia?

Woah, actinic bulbs? Yeah get 6500k bulbs for plants if you are looking at a planted tank... those SW bulbs arent meant for the fw aquarium. Dose more ammonia to keep feeding the BB. And once the tank is cycled, something I have found that helps is Hornwart for a new tank... eats trates like candy.

It was the only bulbs I had around so I just put them on to watch the tank until I needed to get new bulbs haha. So until I get new bulbs, leave the others off?

Yeah, no one in that tank will ever need the lights, just the owner and plants when you have them.

Well should I take the light off or no? I have no nitrites yet but my ammonia has gone to zero twice now in two days. I wonder if we can move this thread to the cycling subforum...

You don't need your lights on during cycling unless you have live plants in the tank.
