  1. Default Will tetras breed in community tank..

Simple question how hard is it to get tetras to breed in a community aquarium??

I have 9 ember's and 9 neons and i would love for them to spawn every now and then and get a few fry raised to increase their numbers..

when i first set my tank up last June within a few weeks i found a little baby ember tetra swimming about so they did successfully spawn and hatch at least an egg..

I know they prob do spawn but would these little fish eat their own eggs before they get to the hatching stage??

Or are their certain conditions that they favour in order to encourage spawning?? certain time of year?

Im not really interested in setting up a smaller tank for eggs etc to be fertilized, just interested to know if theres anything can be done while in the main tank that can encourage them.

They breed constantly, generally in the mornings. But they will not have babies in the tank unless it's a breeder tank with adults removed right after spawning. They eat their own eggs after laying them as well as the other fish.

Neons and cardinals are not breed anywhere in the US.

i thought that's what might be happening.

I guess the 1 little ember that made was a fluke then.. i read somewhere about someone using marbles on top of their substrate so that the eggs fall down in between them and prevent the fish from eating them as they cant get down through the gaps.. Might give that a try.. Would be nice to raise up some little fry.

Are you sure that neons and cards arent bred in the us we have lot of local breeders in toronto. So i find it hard to believe there are none in the usa. Maybe no ones taken it up in your area perhaps

I know that Neons have been bred commercially in Florida for years now. Here's the link if you would like to read about it.
