My Snail and its Eggs....
0
Well a few days ago these showed up... How long do they take to hatch?

And here it is showing off..

May I ask what is that thing coming straight up?
Oh and here is the tank its in. A 10 Gallon by itself... Temp is kept at 82F.

That's an apple/mystery snail, right?
The thing coming straight up is a breathing tube. They can stick it out of the water and breathe air.
Apple snails normally lay clutches of eggs in a spot that is humid but not actually in the water. I don't believe they'll hatch in the water. They're also not hermaphroditic... they need a male snail and a female snail to lay fertilized eggs. So... on two counts, I'm a bit puzzled.
300 gallon mega tank: sailfin pleco, clown loaches, silver dollars, roseline sharks, congo tetras, new world cichlids
125 gallon office tank: Africian cichlids, synodontis catfih
75 gallon community tank: bolivian rams, black skirt tetras, dwarf neon rainbowfish, corys, harlequin rasboras, otos, bristlenose and bulldog plecos, assassin snails, various shrimp
60 gallon goldfish tank: fancy goldfish

Yea its a apple snail.
Maybe it was on the glass or something and fell off? I didnt see it in the morning when I went to work.. But when I got home it was laying on the bottom of the tank... And I've only had it about a month... So maybe a male/female was in the tank at the shop?
I guess if its laying eggs then this one if a female? Cause I was reading that it cant change sex like most snails do.
How do you sex a snail? I'd like to get a blue one but dont really want to have 5 million snails showing up...

I guess the clutch could have fallen. I've heard once or twice of a single female laying a clutch, so maybe yours was still fertile from the store or maybe she laid eggs even though they were infertile.
The egg clutches are easy to spot and easy to remove if you don't want them, so if you want another snail but not millions of babies it shouldn't be any problem. I don't know how to sex them.
