East Coast Storm Alert

If you live in the middle to Northern East coast NOW is the time to prepare your tank for power loss of one to five days (depending on where you live.) If you have wanted a battery powered air pump, get it. Or a computer UPS for a pump.

A generator? Get one before they are gone BUT be very careful about fumes (location, location, location for the unit!) and that these do NOT enter your house - your death will not help the fish!

Store fuel safely and not in your house or an attached building! Never put a running generator in a building or a structure attached to your house or near an open/partly open window or house air intakes!

Also, extension cords for the generator to reach the aquarium - correct rating and length.

Again, now is the time to act. If you have a generator - have enough fuel/containers for a few days? Checked its oil? Tested the generator? If it has a battery start, check that that works?

Yes, the storm may miss but then you will be ready for winter and those possible power losses.

Oooooo noo. Not liking that! Just checked weather channel.com and it is projected to crash right to me by Wednedsdayand mix with a nor'easter and cause $1 billion in damage!!!! I hate storms! Definitely taking your advise and getting a battery operated pump. And running as well. I hate storms, and i dont like the sound of "worst storm we've seen in the northeast".

They are not expecting much more but rain and some high winds from the forecast I got just an hour ago. Of course no one wants either and it doesn't take much to knock power out.

Yup. The power-outs are getting stupid. The country's infrastructure needs to be updated across the board. The power grid cannot handle the amount of people/ consumption anymore, =a problem for us all.

Yikes. Now they are saying this storm is not furious but very large. That's the way the last hurricane was that just battered everything for days and wouldn't move.

Lee was the last one to come by here and it caused a lot of destruction. Huge pieces of roads and highways just washed away. Bridges taken out, others needed inspected before anyone could drive over them again. Basements everywhere were flooded, and power was lost for days in several areas. My moms town was flooded and the fire dept had to deliver warm food and fresh water to everyone for a whole week.

I just hope its not as bad as that.

Last I heard was that winds to 40 mph and heavy rain and possible flooding esp. along coast areas. That is bad over a large area - tree's fall everywhere.

Should add that they say it will hang around some days causing a lot of rain and heavy snow in the mountains. That minor Derecho caused my area to loss power just over three days and I live near a major city ... .
