What is the shortest time?
Ok so what is the shortest time you can wait before adding the new tap water (how long should it sit) when doing a water change?

just add conditioner, letting it sit for 3 days gets rid of chlorine, but not heavy metals

Yeah I just drop some conditioner in and put it right in the tank. I find it way easier that way.

Does it matter that the water you have set aside for the change isn't the same temperature as the aquarium water? I was worried that the change in temperature might effect the fish.

I use a heater and airstone to keep my reserve water the same temp.

I actually try to match the temp by adding just the slightest bit of warm water until the new is pretty darn close to the old temp. I suppose this is ok for the fish I have since they haven't had any adverse effects from it.
