Hello everyone! I am new to this site. I am a 54 year old male and have kept aquarium fish since I was 10 years old. I have had all sizes of tanks from a goldfish bowl to a 29 gallon tank. I have generally kept livebearers. But, also goldfish, bottom feeders (cat fish, loaches & algae eaters), angel fish, bettas, cichlids, tetras, barbs & danios. I tend to prefer livebearers i. e. guppies, mollies, platys & sword tails. I currently have a 20 gallon tank with 2 clown loaches & my current fascination = platys! I also enjoy growing many different types of aquatic plants!

My problem - My favorite pet shop, with a knowledgable staff and large selection of fish & supplies has only 2 varieties of platys. They are Mickey Mouse & Rainbow platys. I am interested in keeping other varieties of this fish. However, I don't know what is currently available out there! I don't know what others look like besides Wag Tail platys. Also, can the platy be successfully crossbred with other livebearers? I am thinking - no. But, do not know for sure!
