Transplanted crypts are not looking too hot

Well it has been just over a week since I remodeled the old 55g. Still working on the plants. The one crypt I had salvaged from the old tank is not doing so well. Not that it was in great shape when I pulled it out. What do you think is it salvageable?

Probably crypt melt. Leafs waste away and turn to mush but it will come back. Just cut off the rotted stuff. They may also not like being planted in stones.

It's only been a week.

Like fish, Plants also acclimate but these things take time so ride it out for a while.

You lose nothing by waiting it out for a few weeks.

I've got a crypt quite similar to yours. They don't much like being moved so the melt is to be expected. As others have said. Prune it back to remove the leaves and stems that have discoloured (or have algae on them). It's also a good idea to trim back the roots when you move them as this encourages new growth.

I grew crypts in coral sand (completely unsuitable) for a year or so and I found that the root network would only spread so far before going black and rotting. I'd recommend using root tabs for yours as they will do better in non-inert substrates.

I am starting to see some, albeit small, new growth! I have since also planted a nice large anubias, and though I would try some water wisteria. The wisteria is growing like mad! 2" of new growth in a little over a week.

I have my crypts planted in gravel. I feed them regularly with root tabs and Flourish Comp. They never did much dying back, though. Crypts are sensitive to being transplanted, but I only lost a leaf or two off mine. And that was some time ago. They've stayed nice and green for the most part.

They must like the environment they're in.

Yours should come back, especially if you feed them.
