His problem is not algae. It's too many fish in a tank too small. His problem is fish waste, not algae. Those algae drops are deadly and many people have lost fish due to them.

You should never grab a chemical when a water change will do the job. Clean water replaces nutrients, oxygen and electrolytes. If people would do more water changes and less grabbing chemicals, they'd have happier and healthier fish to start with.
