Arrow Adding Carbonated Water to your Tank? I'm amazed!

At the Aquatics Live show I went to yesterday in London, they had a seminar on aquascaping. I was very interested to learn that the speaker often sets up low-tech tanks and uses an interesting substitute to CO2.

He doses carbonated water at 1ml per 10litres of tank water. Regular bottled, carbonated water! I was amazed. He said it obviously wasn't as steady as using CO2, but he found it far better and more predictable than EasyCarbo.

I'd like to know, has anyone else has tried this?

I've never heard of that method before either. That's cool if it works well. a lot cheaper than CO2 as well.

That's a interesting way to dose. I'm going to have to read up on this.

Do you remember the name of the speaker ???
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

The speaker was James Starr-Marshall and the talk was called "Aquascaping and the Modern Planted Aquarium".

Well, It IS simply CO2 injected water lol, The first issue that comes to mind for me is how do you dose it consistently? [Is it really small tanks? Must be]

A I wrong in thinking that effectively it still needs a pressurized system to deliver it because just dumping it in will cause a big spike [pH also as well] and the CO2 would all simply gas off in a few hours.
    Gas mileage isn't everything OIIIIIIIO
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Given that fizzy water loses it's fizz in an hour or two I don't know how it could work effectively. These were all for nano set-ups. Everything under 60 litres. Some with fish, some with shrimps.

He also showed images of some filterless set-ups which looked amazing - and used this technique. No fauna in them though as they were around 2 litres in size. 100% water change each day.

Interesting. I wonder if you could bet one of those soda making machines to make your own carbonated water for your tank. Of course you would still have some yummy soda to drink if it didn't work.

That's what my other half suggested.

I wonder if it could cause gas bubble disease? Also wonder if the filters would not drive off the carbon very quickly. Interesting topic tho.

Also, how would you know if the ratios were the same from bottle to bottle?
