    Default Nannostomus Eques

Just a quick view of some nannostomus eques I picked up a little over a month ago. I have 7 - a few are in behind the plants - and now I wish I had a few more. They kind of just "float" slowly through the tank.

So I now have 3 species of pencilfish: dwarf pencilfish (nannostomus marginatus), Beckford pencilfish (nannostomus beckfordi) and these nannostomus eques, sometimes called the hockystick or diptail pencilfish. I originally wanted some pencilfish for my 40g but these are too mellow to share space with my diamond and candy cane tetras. So they're in one of the 20g tanks with kerri tetras, some endler males, a few remaining aging dwarf pencilfish and a few (also aging) green neons. Will probably look for either the three lined pencilfish or some more beckfords when things settle down and we can once again browse the stores.

They are very pretty, love how they are motionless in the water and seem to fall forward rather than swim.

One of my favorites, a lot tougher than they appear, I need to increase my school of them in the 75g.

Yeah, now that they've been in this tank for a while I can see they have no problem going after food with the crazy endlers and active kerri tetras all around them. I'd like more for this 20g tank but might also consider them at a later date for the 40g, along with one of the others. I really like each of the pencilfish species I have so far.
