I sold this tank in 1980 along with a custom oak stand and a custom filtering system. I was looking on CL for a new (used) tank 3 years ago and found this one on the side of the original buyers house. I knew right away that it was one I built because of the custom threaded blocks on the bottom that only I used and I also remembered the guy that bought lt. It needed a lot of buffing and a little old English for the stand, but it restored nicely. I paid $70 for the tank and stand and after 39 years of use it's still in great shape.
That's neat to get it back after all that time, looks great

this tank looked like they stored motor oil in it, and I could still buff it out and I'm not an expert at buffing. As far as pricey, the used ones go pretty cheap.
It was stored outdoors, for a long time?...what do you mean by "custom threaded blocks"?

It was stored out side under a tarp for over a year. If you leave acrylic in direct sunlight it will ruin the tank. Custom blocks are what I came up with, the are 2 inch acrylic squares that are a 3/4 inch thick You drill a 1 inch hole in the tank and glue on the block, gives you a 3/4 inch tapped hole for any type of filter you want. At the time Lifegaurd and Seaclear were the best for custom installations, now I just used some pvc threaded plugs to seal up the holes so I could use canisters.
