Just moved my tank. It's been rearranged and I'm trying to keep rams again. Wish me luck.

I no longer have the light colored cave on the far right and I've since added another piece of driftwood with small lace java ferns tied on either end.

Very cool. I love it when folks nail that beautiful natural look. Like you were able to magically transport a section of a stream/lake right into your room.

Blackwater tank, or just dim lighting?

Thank you BluewaterBoof. Yes, I love the natural look too.

It's just dim lighting. I do have some "Instant Amazon" blackwater conditioner but I've been hesitant to use it. I figured moving from city water (July 10, 2018) to a higher pH well water location might be enough water fluctuations for now.

I started this journal as I want to keep track of how this tank may change in appearance and to hold myself accountable for taking care of the rams. I've never had much luck keeping rams and I'd be so happy if I could get them to spawn. Because of the cories, I am keeping the temp around 78 F as opposed to the low 80s and that might be too cool for spawning. My well water might have too high a pH for spawning.

Good job making it look so natural like Boof said. I really like the look of this tank with all the anubias roots. I've had some limited success breeding rams, so I'd love to follow your project and wish you all the best :) Do you have any flat rocks resting on the substate? All my rams have always spawned on slate rocks.

What is the water measuring at your new place? Mainly GH/KH? Far as temp goes they will spawn at 80 but I don't think you'll have good results anything under that.

Found your journal -- I'm delighted that you've started one. I'm subscribed!

You've got a beauty of a tank set up there. I really like peering through the twists of rhizomes and tangles of roots.

It didn't take long for the female ram that was purchased with the male ram to disappear. The male seemed to be pairing up with the gold ram female who was in the tank for a few days before he and the second female arrived. Within a week the gold ram had died. Now he is the only ram I've got. I won't be seeing any ram fry, but I do hope he survives and thrives in this tank. Knowing they need very clean water, and I've been changing 20% of the tank water every Sunday.

Now I'm noticing this new location for my tank seems to be in an unstable location. When we walk past the tank the tank water rolls. The center brace for my aquarium has been broken for a while so that additional reinforcement is not present. The only other location I could put the tank here would be in the basement. That is where it was in my previous home. But we have band practise down there and it might be too much for the fish. As it is the loud music may still be too much for the fish. I guess we will see.
