"checkerboard" snakehead
wondering if anyone could shed some light on this, i was in my tropical fish shop when they had 2 "checkerboard snakeheads" for sale, i went home did some research and i could not find any thing on this particular breed of snakehead, closest i came to was a checkerboard julie cichlid which looks slightly similar to mine that i eventually bought. was curious if anyone had heard of this before or is it shop bred? certainly looks like/kills like a snake head. will post a pic up when i get one,

Google turned up a few people calling Channa punctata "checked snakehead" (its more common name is "spotted snakehead") so you could research that and see if it's what you've got. Or, like you mentioned, posting a picture would help.
