  1. Default Am I doing anything wrong?

I looked for a similar topic but didn't see one so here goes....I have a community tank and like others have mentioned some fish are much more aggressive than others. What I do in order to help out the less aggressive fish is to put my hand a few inches under the water and release it in the current produced by the canister filter which pushes it down to those fish.

The only concern I have is there is more chance that the flakes are sucked up into the filter intake that could cause an ammonia issue.

Depends on 3 things really, how much food are you putting in, tank size and what's your filtration system.

If its small amounts of food you are feeding then the fish should clear most of it up. If it is a large tank then it may take longer for the food to circle back round in the current to the filter, giving the fish more time to eat it. Finally if you have a large filtration system then some fish flakes aren't going to cause a major problem.

Aslong as you are feeding in moderation then there shouldn't be a problem
    My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

    Plus 1 to ScottishFish.
A little food in the filter never hurts.
Now a bunch getting in there is not healthy at all.

Have you tried feeding first at one end of the tank (where the aggressive fish are), and while they are busy, drop a little food at the other end? It may take a bit for the shy fish to figure it out but they usually do. Just dont drop alot in at once. And if you have to clean it up because it's not being eaten, well thats why they call it a hobby.
Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..

Please remember; every keystroke has a consequence.
