Got new tank and a question
Good day AC,
I was recently given a 75 g tank that is really nice, for free. So I accepted got it home and leaked. No problem here so I just stripped it all and re sealed it.
It has a built in marine filter, pretty much a giant refugium. It's a das h99 marine filter , 1 thick sponge filter pad, one floss, and a 8" dia bio spool. In other words a nitrate factory, any ideas on how I can make this filter useable10G Algae tank-The Nano was moved to the 55G

Add a little algae scrubber to it to remove nitrates.

Lots of live rock will help too.
Is that the one with the skimmer built into it? If so you can remove some of the media and use it with out it (I would keep it). The media is doing its job by converting nh3 to nitrites then to nitrates. You just need a way to remove the nitrates and be good to go.300g + 240g in wall build! - Follow Here

By chance have you posted you algae scrubber build thread ?
I was planning on ditching the two inserts and only keeping the bio spool. I also got an eheim pro II as well so I might make that a nitrate reactor10G Algae tank-The Nano was moved to the 55G

Actually, I do.

I just posted a pic. This was my first one and the design sucks IMO. I don't have the pics during the build.
Last night I built one out of acrylic which is going to be enclosed with 10 660nm LED's (cree 3w).
Also, a new desing/patent was just posted on algaescrubber.net! It is an upflow design and takes way less to do depending on how crazy you want to get. I see people talking about taking the acrylic design and pumping water into it and have it flow out the top.
Check it out hereLast edited by glarior; 04-30-2012 at 06:32 PM.
