male gourami building bubble nest - no female
one of my dwarf male gourami is building a bubble nest. there are no females in the tank. Is this normal? Just curious. It's the second nest he's built in 2 months.

he is telling you "bring me females!"
Haven't personally seen a gourami do it, but my male bettas do it all the time. Best to keep your house tidy even if you aren't expecting company. You never know!300 gallon mega tank: sailfin pleco, clown loaches, silver dollars, roseline sharks, congo tetras, new world cichlids
75 gallon community tank: bolivian rams, black skirt tetras, dwarf neon rainbowfish, corys, harlequin rasboras, otos, bristlenose and bulldog plecos, assassin snails, various shrimp
60 gallon goldfish tank: fancy goldfish

Ah - so this guy is of the "If I build it, they will come," mentality. He's an optimist. <g>
Hate to disappoint the little guy but he's going to remain a bachelor.
Thanks for the responses!
