Snapping turtle

Hey AC how you been?? I was asked to watch a friends turtle for a little bit. I said sure since it's pretty cool. It's maybe 5 inches long. Turtles vacation home is in a 30g tank. I have it filled about 4" of water and some rocks for him to climb up. Is this okay or should i give him more water? I want him to be happy and NOT stressed

Snapping turtles should have enough water, that they can rest on the bottom of the tank and extend their head/neck to reach the surface of the water for air. I would say 2-3 times the height of the snappers plastron would be sufficient.

I would say you are pretty close with 4-5 inches of water.

It is pretty hard to stress out a snapping turtle.I had two younglings in a large rubbermaid tub for,somewhere around four years.The tub had another tub sunk in the center,with earth and live plants in it.Out of all the turtles,I have cared for,the snappers did not smell up the water.They now reside in a protected large pond,with plenty of food.Great at eating dead or live fish,shrimp,worms,insects,even Frozen/thawed mice.
