Hey everyone, I need some good knowledge on this one. About 2 weeks ago my Sky Blue Swordtail gave birth to a batch of 30 fry. I have them all isolated in a 10 gallon tank. I was just wondering if anyone knew how long it would take before they show sex? Ive tried to google it and i cant find a consistant answer. Thanks for the help Sincerely, J

depends on how fast they grow , the specific type of platy, family genetics and so on. If you clean the water daily they will grow up faster and thus show their gender faster.

My Platy seem to have a defined sex by about 1/2 to 3/4"... It's really hard to tell, but I've been able to spot the difference fairly early I think. Hoping to have some more sword fry soon. Lost my first broad to a forced relocation. :(

    HERPA. DERPA.

its less dependant on time and more dependant on size. as said before frequent water changes help promote fish growth. additionally live food like brine do as well.

my experience with platies is that they all initially appear female, and only later do they develop the male parts. I would wait a month at least before I would consider a platy fry "confirmed female". However, platies don't grow the swords so you may be able to tell sooner.
