Went to a store today and just released this critter, into the large community aquarium. It is 4 to 5 inches long and was only 12 dollars. Not to shabby for a retropinnis bichir.Hopefully it will pose for better pictures later.

If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Yes,it was between this and some herichthys bartoni,or a vieja argentea or three. I hope to have picked the better choice, for a "community".Maybe,i will set another aquarium up and go back for a few central americans,a yellowjacket guapote, and the fore mentioned cichlids.

Neat looking fish. I would have picked up the vieja argentea myself. They are one of my favorites. I need more tanks
People say if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all... Then they wonder why am I so quiet.
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
A moderator on a fish forum should be able to identify an oscar... Don't you think?

Well the retropinnis grows to about 14inches long, and is a mellow inhabitant for a medium to large fish community.Although it will not put up with overly aggressive cichlids,I.E...dovii,terrors,etc...Also,it will eat small fish. The fish has gills, but prefers to use it's labyrinth organ to gulp atmospheric air.
