sexing silvertip tetras
Picked up 9 really great looking silvertip tetras today, great wee fish. Had a quick google but never came up with anything too conclusive, what's the best way, if its possible, to sex these little guys.
Thanks guys! ScottishFish

When they mature, it's easy. The males are slimmer and somewhat smaller than females, and their silver tips are more defined and thus brighter. Also, if the light hits him just right, there's a small silver hook at the bottom point of the anal fin. It's called the Characin hook; a lot of male tetra species have them.

Thanks for the great reply dave.
I think I have managed to I'd a couple of males. Also on a side question what's their max size, in cm if that's ok, I find its better for someone to tell you as a lot of books can vary.

SF,
Little less than 3.2 cm, at least that's the size of mine, since I maintain a large school of them.

The ones I got today are between 2-3cm so I guess they don't have much groing to do. Thanks again dave
