  1. Question Harlequin Rasbora

    0 Not allowed!
I have 3 Harlequin Rasbora's that when I first brought them home seemed happy... they are still healthy and eating good however 2 are always together and when the third one tries to swim with them they nip and chase it away I thought they were peaceful .... Is there a certain number you need the LFS told me 3 would be good.

They are schooling fish. IMHO, you should have at least 8.

That LFS advice was terrible. :-( !

Rasboras are schooling fish and need a group of their own kind to feel comfortable and secure, The more the merrier.

6 is often suggested as a minimum but personally I am a fan of much larger groups than that as they behave more naturally [Especially when considering their minimal bioload].

What size tank is this? Other stock? Filtration? All are relevant to how many fish you can add.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

+1 to 850R. Remember Harlaquins are not Characins bur so many of us keep them with characins that it's easy to get them confused.

Agree you need more. You could have a dozen of them if you wanted. Three is not a school. You simply have a male and a female that doesn't want the third one there.

Same species would be better. Different species do not hang out together.

Thanks for the advice my tank is well cycled I have had it up for about 5 years, I used it with a few corys and raised snails for my green spotted puffer. When I no longer had my puffer I kept the corys and some snails. I added the Angel, 2 corys and the Harlequin's about a week ago. My original pepper cory is about 2 or 3 years and quite large but very happy with his new little friends

Get a couple more cories and up your Rasbora to 10-12 [In batches, Not all at once]

Keep an eye on your water parameters for a few weeks to insure your BB colony is keeping up. If there are no issues you could add more Rasbora later.

:Then... Sit back & enjoy :
