Thread: Filtration

Hybrid View

  1. Default Filtration

    Hi guys and gals,
I have just started a freshwater tank to go along with my saltwater tank. I wanted to make sure I have the right filtration on my 30g Tall freshwater tank. I am running a marineland 350 biowheel HOB filter. Will this be sufficient for my tank? Thanks for any advice.

Not sure yet, I have some cheap fishes in there right now that are cycling it now for two weeks. I don't want anything that will exceed 5-6 inches. My plan is a community tank. I have plenty of live plants already.

Well, There's really no way to determine if your filtration is adequate without knowing the bio-load it is going to be dealing with..

If possible, Give us a sketch of your intentions wrt stocking.

Obviously you are looking at schools of tetras/rasboras and the like since you don't have room for 5" fish anyway.

I would like to have 1 main fish and the rest schooling fish. maybe a Ram or an Angel. I don't know whats really available, I have limited LFS where I live.

Ok, Time for a road trip...

    Here's what you do:

Grab your phone or anything else you can take notes with and head out to your local LFS.

Leave your wallet IN THE CAR [This is more important than you may think :-P]

Make a few laps in the LFS and see what appeals to you, Note the common names [Latin also if possible] and come back here and post that list.

You can start googling that list while you wait for replies and we can help you sort out whats compatible [With each other and your tank] and what isn't.

This way we don't offer our faves and you discover [Much mileage later] that none are available and you can offer ideas on what's appealing and locally available to you.

    It's win/win
