has any one noticed bj's brand dog food?
berkley and jensen brand natural dog food seems to have the same nutrition and ingredients as blue buffalo. at almost half the cost. i was wondering if there is something else besides the ingredients and nutrition that should be counted for when buying dog food?

Dog food
There really is not much of a difference besides a few vitamins/minerals that your dog may need for proper nutrition. I don't know enough to say for sure but the B.J. food lacks dicalcium phosphate (which I believe your dog should have) and glucosamine which helps with joint health. These can be supplemented in pills or treats, etc. I would ask a veterinarian or an animal nutritionist to be sure. It can also depend on breed so asking a veterinarian or animal nutritionist is the best way to go. It would also be a good idea to talk to one before altering your dog's diet. A sudden change can make your dog sick.

" go to a vet is a bad idea for food" The sad fact is most vets will tell you to buy iams or purina or hills science diet because the few classes they got on pet nutrition in school were in fact run by these companies who are out to make money not help animals. Because they are 'just animals' most pets when they die are rendered into the very pet foods vets sell and promote. Anything with meat meal or meat by product meal can legally contain euthanized pets.
I don't know if the BJs dog food contains this.
Right now I found a really good deal on pet food, I go to Woodys pet deli and buy frozen cooked free range chicken with ground bone and organs for less then 5 dollars a pound. This lasts the cats about a month or so when mixed with canned- about a week to a half a week when fed alone you have to transition slowly as there is a detox that happens when you give real food. but in the long run you save a ton of money..

Is it grain free? I have been feeding mine Wilderness for years and love the results. If something is essentially the same but half the price count me in.

Dog food
Going to a vet is not a bad idea for dog food, because you are not asking them about the brand, but the ingredients. Your dog food may look the same and be low in grain but if your food is missing certain vitamins or nutrients in their diet it can be very harmful. And if they do not know they can look it up for you.
Don't try to pick a diet out for your dog yourself, because many diseases that animals have, including dogs, cats, and farm animals, are caused by bad nutrients.
And my initial comment came from my girlfriend who is a pre-vet and just took two animal nutrients classes. However, she recommends you talk to an actual vet because she isn't a doctor yet.
