Muffler Bad News...then Good News...

My muffler looked totally broken, probably snagged it while trying to avoid the rutted gravel roads during our current rainy season...but it wasn't rattling, and I didn't smell exhaust in the car, so I figured it might not be too bad...but it definately needed looking after.

I ask hubby about it...and without looking, he tells me it's fine, and I'm imagining it...

So I got mad, and I MADE him look...and then he says "OMG, your muffler is broken!"

So I booked an appointment to take it it today...thinking it would be minor (hubby said it would be)...and the estimate came to $900. My stomach dropped.

Well...I need the car... not really an option not to fix it...so I sucked it up and said 'go ahead'...and am mentally rearranging my finances to pay for it...

I get my call to pick it up...and they managed to salvage most of the muffler after all, once they had it all apart...final bill $150.

I think I need to send hubby to a summer mechanic camp...or to just stop asking him for advice...why do I keep thinking he knows about cars? I know he doesn't know about cars...

I'll just ask Kevin instead...

The 17-year old also ripped the muffler from his car...on a rut (speeding)...dunno how much that's going to be yet...but I ain't payin' for it...maybe he'll finally learn to smarten up...

I hope it's not $900...or there goes most of his summer's wages...
