Anorexia?

My blue channel catfish is not eating as much as it used to, and the last week I haven't seen it eat anything at all. I don't see any signs of ick on it, or wounds. What do you think is the problem? All the other fish seem to do just fine in the tank, if the water quality was somehow secretly bad they should have been affected to, right?

All the other fish = one other blue channel of the same size and four oscars. The tank is 250 gallon.

If the water quality has slowly worsened during some time the other fishes don’t need to be effected since they have gotten use to it. (This don’t not mean its ok) The blue channel catfish might be the most sensitive fish and are hence showing symptoms first. I would get some equipment to test your water values or take some water to a LFS and se if they can do it for you.

As a precautionary measure you can make a water change of 25 % today and then wait a few days and do another one. I would still get the water tested though. You could also stop feeding complete a few days during this time to give the water time to recuperate.

I got it tested, and the test didn't indicate any problems, but I did 25% + 25% + 25% water changes anyway and now the problem seem to be solved. I don't know what was wrong, but I'm glad bc is eating again.

how big ar ethe channel cats.... they get up to about 4 feet do they not?

(4ft x 2fish)+(1ft x 4fish)= 12ft of fish.

That's my rough estimate. Kitten, do you like big fish? :roll: lol.

I know this may also be a silly question and it seems as though you may have resolved your problem. But have you thought about the water temperature or season changes. Fish can also be sensitive to any weather changes even if they are in a tank that is set to the right temp. Like hurricanes, earthquakes, snow, things of this nature.
