Quick Question...
Found this rock outside which has a good shape to it, as far as cleaning is concerned is it a simple job of boiling and scrubbing the stone? my main concern is that there is a high chance that a cat could of urinated on it.

Scrub then boil is fine.
You can also soak it in bleach solution with water or pp or spray with alcohol; whichever tickles your fancy.

I had heard that boiling rocks is a nono because rocks can actually explode. Because of moisture inside the rock. I have read that although it doesnt happen much there is a chance and it can do some damage.

Can not happen - now if you heated well above BP and threw it in cold water, then yes, it could crack and maybe a piece would come off with some force; explode? No way. I've used stones heated in fires to throw in cold water to warm it and never even cracked one but it is possible, but not likely (when heating with a fire.)

Knowledge is fun(damental)
A 75 gal with eight Discus, fake plants, and a lot of wood also with sand substrate. Clean up crew is fifteen Sterba's Corys. Filters: canister w/UV, in-tank algae scrubber that removes phosphates and nitrates! Also, a highly dangerous commercial nitrate removal unit from hell

It only takes one to explode and hurt someone.
I use to boil them too ( Outside over a propane stove)but advising it over the forum is not a good idea.It also not necessary.A good scrub is all they need.
The vinegar test is always a good idea so you are aware of what it may do to your ph and water hardness.Ray

I've used rocks from the family farm in my tanks before.
I would srub them really good with a brush that has NOT been used with any other cleaners before. I would scrub it in bleach and water followed by rinsing it off in tap water really good and finally soaking it in declorinated water for a few days.
This worked well for meIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Do what all states above. Just watch you PH, it could raise or lower it

Boiling rocks is not a good idea. They explode and flying shrapnel may cause injury and damage.

Just scrub the rock in hot water with an old tooth brush, a couple times, and that should be ok. DO NOT BOIL ROCKS! They may blow up! I would also test with vinigar, to make sure it won't raise your pH (unless you want it up)...
