Thread: Oddball Cory?

Hybrid View

  1. Default Oddball Cory?

My 44G is being set up for 3 Angels. I decided on Cories for my bottom feeders, and to add some interest to the tank. When I got to the LFS, I decided on Peppered Cories over the greenish cories, and the albino cories.

When I'm done stocking, I should have 6. I got 3 yesterday to let the tank adjust to the bio-load. It took them a while to get settled in. Today, they all seem to be doing fine. They really enjoy the sand in the bottom. They run along, nose down, sifting through it.

However, there seems to be an oddball. He doesn't stick with the other two cories. I've noticed some differences between him and the other 2.

-Instead of the olive/brown body with darker markings, he is more of a silvery/brighter-olive/brown color with darker markings.

-The other swim with their tails running at about 60mph, where he swims more fluidly. He swims kind of like a shark, with his tail making very smooth, elegant strokes.

-He is a little smaller, which I thought he was just younger than the others. I thought the color issue was just because he is younger than the others too.

Do you think I accidently got a different kind of cory? Or is he just younger than the other cories and more "annoying" to them?

They all came out of the same tank labeled "Peppered Cories." I didn't get to pick them out because there were about 25 of them in there...

BTW, the other two are doing fine. They act like I figured they would. They stick together, most of the time side by side. When one swims away, the other follows.

I'll try to get a picture.

They are still a little skittish when I get close to the tank...

He resembles the others, but just in a different shade of color. Seems to have a different attitude too.

I tried to get a picture of him, which neither my phone or camera could get a good picture.

It looked like a silver bean. lol

I took a flashlight and shined it on him and other other 2. They all give off a greenish tint when in light, they all have the same(ish) markings, and all have little dark lines on their tails.

Maybe he just has a different personality? I really like the little guy. He isn't scared of me, and is very calm, collected, and composed. lol

Any name suggestions for the little guy? He's the only one I can distinguish out of the 3. lol

I have three peppered cories, two males and a female. The males are noticeable smaller, and one is way lighter than the other male and the female. It just sounds like color variation to me, I don't know about the behavior though. Mine hardly ever school anymore, but they do sleep together.
