Got some more live rock
I got another 40 or so lbs of rock from a guy moving here in town. Also, about 5 gallons of sand. I put that rock and sand in my 72 right now. The rock was out of water for about 15 minutes or so.
My question is, can I cure my rock from my 55 with that rock also? Time is not a factor and my live rock in my 55 has been curing for about 6 weeks and has tons of brown hair algae on it. If I can put both batches in the same tank, then I can get rid of my 55 and make some more room. The apocalyptic vision of a criminally insane charismatic cult leader....

Shouldn't be a problem to mix them especially if you aren't concerned with time.

Agreed, go ahead and mix them, nothing to harm there. The die off from the new rock will only serve to feed the bacteria already present in your existing rock.

Pretty much the way that I was doing it when I needed to add more rock and I didn't run into any problems. You should be good to go.

Thanks everyone. I wasn't too sure, but I wanted to ask just in case. Wow, my 72 is now full of live rock. Once all the debris settles down, I'll post a pic, kind of looks funny with two different batches. There were some straggler snails that came with the live rock I just got.
The water in the 72 is R/O culligan water I mixed up a few days ago. I made 3 trips to walmart with 22 gallons of water each trip.
I'm gong to list my 55 and 10 gallon on craigslist, hopefully I'll get enough to help majorly with buying a MH with all the extra I'm throwing into the mix.
Then that'll leave me down to just two tanks. The 30 gallon I have with the firefish I'm hoping to turn into a sump once I the rock cycles and I can put those two fish in the main tank. The apocalyptic vision of a criminally insane charismatic cult leader....

OMG, I feel like a little kid on Christmas. Okay, here's some pics and I'm looking to see at all the goodies I got with my live rock yesterday. I'm uploading the pics now on myspace and I'm going through my books right now to recognize any I can.

Here's what the set up looks like. I just got done putting the magnums in and redoing all the chords under the 72. I should fill it with a little more water, but I've already been on it today for about 6 hrs with tearing down the other two tanks also.

Okay, first off, there's some Zoanthids that look like they are thriving. They are open and spread out. I want to say they are yellow polyps. The most similar ones I see from the books. There's some on the live rock and two heads laying on the sand that look fine too. Should I put them on the rock? Also, there looks to be some Lebrunia danae (I can't find a common name) laying down behind the polyps. They're pretty big, about 6 inches plus long, but they I don't know if they will die or have died. They were out of the water for 15 minutes while I moved the rock. You can only see the base of one, but theres like 4 on the other side of the rock.

I want to say that's a spanish dancer, but I don't know. It looks pretty even though it's pretty small and there's another one that I couldn't get a good picture of.
I think I have a fan worm, but this one is almost completely transparent. I can see through it no problem and couldn't get picked up by the camera. It's pretty small, but I'm going to keep an eye on it.
I also have about 4 snails I know that I running around. Now if these snails are surviving, should I get some hermit crabs or something to start gnawing down the hair algae from my first batch of live rock?Last edited by Ocellaris; 08-16-2008 at 08:33 PM.

Sorry, there is no way that's a Spanish Dancer. :) Even if it was it wouldn't live. Looks more like it could be a Mushroom. Mushrooms are common hitchhikers.

That's what I was thinking. Because it said it's very delicate, but I couldn't find anything else that looked a lot like it.
