API test kit...
Is there any reason why an API freshwater test kit would not work on a saltwater set up? They both test for the same things and the freshwater has a high range ph test with it? Just not sure if I should go spend more money on another test kit if it's not worth it.

Usually the API test kits work on both sides. They will have a card for FW and a card for SW.

I have the master test kit for freshwater and it only has 1 set of cards. Perhaps it's for both and I just never noticed? I just can't seem to find a difference in any of the tests.

edited......they sell kits for Freshwater, saltwater and reef. To my knowledge, they don't all test the same.

Thanks. I already plan to purchase the reef kit today. But when viewing the fresh and salt master kits they both contain the same tests. This is where I'm confused. I can't see why I wouldn't be able to use my fw kit on a sw tank. I tried to call them but got no answer. I don't wanna spend the $$$ on a sw kit if I don't have to as I already have the fw.

I see no difference to them, either, and don't know why the freshwater wouldn't work.

Either way, I don't think your wasting money on buying the master reef test kit.
There are tons of other things to test in reefs that you would never even condsider in FW, and it is good to know what your levels are.

The High Ph solution should be the same.
The differences between the Saltwater and Reef kits are the types of tests they include: the Saltwater kit mirrors the Freshwater kit as to what parameters can be tested (ph, high ph, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate). The Reef kit includes tests for nitrate, calcium, phosphate, and KH.
As example of how the High PH FW and SW cards compare with each other scroll half-way down the page of this link. As previously mentioned both cards are typically included when purchasing the High PH test kit:
