  1. Default can i use the same filters and heaters

Ok i have been wanting to try a 10 gal saltwater i know it's harder BUT i like the hard stuff first don't worry i am getting everything before i just throw salt and water in lol. But what i am wondering is it is a freshwater can i use the same filter and heater thats in there now for sw? i have lots of questions... i have a friend that has a very mature salt water tank and she said she would give me the water out of hers to start off with is that good?

You would be better off mixing your own water. The nitrifying bacteria doesn't reside in the water, but more so in the filter. All that getting her water would do would start your tank off with dirty water.
Money can't buy happiness, but it sure can pay the rent.

Thats a good thread to start out with equipment-wise.
Stock the tank you have, not the tank you plan to have. Always have and use patience.

For those of you who want a SW tank and never have had one before or just starting out, read this blog entry from my blog on AC, it will give you a place to start.

The filter and heater will likely work. The media should probably be replaced in the filter. The FW bacteria will die off and not be useful in the SW tank.

Yes, you can have some of her coral when your tank is ready for it. That's a good way to go for aquiring cheap coral (be sure to return the favor when you get some large enough).
