Future planning 120~ gallon tank
My fiancee doesn't know, but I'm thinking about getting a large size tank, probably near 120 g or so, after we move in March. I've never worked with a tank beyond 30g, so I'm asking for suggestions here on filtration and heating. I'm going with a community planted tank, probably. Anyway, I like to be prepared, so help me out with some suggestions!

I would suggest a single 300 watt hydor in-line heater and a pair of Rena XP3 filters
Or, two 200 watt hydor inline heaters and two Rena XP3 filters.
If your going to have a heavy bio-load, I would replace one of the Renas with a FX5If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

The dual renas sound like a good idea. I also like the idea of the inline heating! Thanks for the suggestions!
You don't think a HOB is needed?

If you have two canisters and set them up for some good water movement at the surface (to keep your water oxygenated), you will be fine
That is how I have my 90 FW tank set-upIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

HOBs are pretty good for mechanical filtration (especially the ac110s) whereas I find most canisters don't have the flow needed for great mech. I would even consider running one rena xp3 canister (or fluval FX5 if budget allows) and one ac110 HOB.
Thar she blows!!!
