Thread: Labor Isues?

  1. Default Labor Isues?

I bought a female guppy a few weeks ago who had a small gravid spot. As time went on, I watched as her pregnancy progressed until a few days ago... a turned on the tanks light and saw a single fry swimming around in the tank, check the mother and she still has her gravid spot. Its been three days since I spotted this single fry in the tank, and the females status hasn't changed at all. (Shes also the only female livebearer in this tank)
Is there any way that shes having trouble giving birth to the rest of the fry? If so, is there anything I need to do, or would it be better just to wait?

Nothing you can do. She will most likely have the others when the time is right. She may have also had more than just the one but the others were eaten unless she's in a breeder.

Ive seen many female guppies who are nowhere near giving birth but still showing some of their Gravid spot. I think it's a little different for each individual and many of mine are constantly showing their Gravid throughout and after pregnancy. I just go by how big the stomach is.

Some appear gravid forever it seems. They stomach tends to take on a square look when ready to give birth.
