Thread: Goldfish Spasms

  1. Default Goldfish Spasms

Hi again, its me with more issues :(

I have bought prime and it is working great so I have stabalized the pH at 7.

My issue this time is that I have noticed my goldfish on several occasions flick its dorsal fin a few times.

Also it has not stopped its bad habit of sucking up air and continues to have floaty poop I have made sure that all the food has sunk so that it stops this habit but it has been unsuccessful.

I will try to take a video of it soon.

The dorsal fin rising and sinking is normal behaviour, if it is what I think it is. As for the sucking at the top, it might just be hungry. Remember that that might be how it was fed during the first few months of its life. Hard to break that kind of conditioning.

the dorsal fin flicks really fast like a waving hand a few times in a matter of seconds, it does this a few times a day from what I can see. is that normal?

Here is a short video of my demekin. She moves her dorsal fin a lot. Is this what you mean?

You say that now... it is 6 inches now and growing. I asked the breeder how big it will get and he said "oh, my fish were slightly stunted when I got them, so I don't know how big the mother and father should have been". So, since I got it at a couple months old, and have been feeding it plenty, it might grow to 10-12 inches... and very fat.

I'll wait for a video then brianna.

I have waited all day to see it do that twitchy thing with its dorsal fin but have not seen it do that once today, which is odd because it did it soo much yesterday I was thinking it might have parasites because I searched up dorsal fin twitching and it said external parasites could be it.

If I was swimming with floaty poops, I'd be flicking my dorsal fin, too.

But, seriously, when you say "floaty" do you mean it swirls around the tank a little and then gets sucked up by the filter? Or do you mean the detritus is stablized, but floating on the surface?

I'd venture a guess that there is a bubble inside the stool and it makes it float.
