how do you tell marble mollys and dalmation mollys apart
I have 2 of each from the same petsmart at the same time and I'm wondering if there really is a difference or just marketing? I can tell which is which only because the 2 marble mollies have lyre tails

Dalmation mollies and marble mollies are the same thing. Marble molly is just another name for a dalmation molly. Here check this out..... http://www.peteducation.com/article....+1958&aid=2618

I ran into this too and after looking at many fish suppliers online I found that Dalmatian Mollies are wight with black markings and Marbles seem to be black with wight markings. I know it doesn't seem like much and I could be totally wrong but that's what it looks like to me.

Actually Dalmation are usually classified as the black and white mollies. Marbled is usually a fish with three colors present. Such as black, white and gold in the same spot like arrangement as a Dalmation. It doesn't matter if its a fish thats black with white markings or white with black markings. Its ALWAYS called a Dalmation. If the fish has a third color such as gold, yellow, reddish or any other color, its called a Marble :D I used to own A black, white, and gold Marbled Lyretail Ballon Molly. Such a long name XD
The only time a two colored molly is Marbled, is if its black and SILVER. Black and whites are just called dalmations ;DLast edited by Carapar56; 08-25-2012 at 01:36 PM.
