New young angels spawning for the first time
Little while back I got some new angels in hopes of remaking my lost angel tank and with some luck get a nice pair of two. (posted some pics a few weeks ago) Well back about a week ago I came home to a young pair laying eggs on the downtube to my filter. Guess they didnt like the plants or slates I got for them...
Mom doing her thing and dad waiting his turn...

Over the next couple days I was pretty shocked that there were only about 30 or so white eggs. Not too shabby...
I really wasnt expecting a whole lot out this first time try in tank with 4 other young angels. I was expecting some fighting and someone in there getting an egg breakfast. I was just thrilled I had a pair. I figured once all was said and done I'd rehome the pair in their own 40g and hope for the best. Still not geared for breeding but maybe a few parent raised would be cool.
The biggest thing I've learned with fish is that nothing ever goes to plan...
My little parents have really stepped up and have cleared most of the white eggs and have been taking turn fanning, cleaning, eating, and crowd control all week like they are pros!
mom in action...

If this was my house I could just hear "THIS is how you clean Dear..."

Well my little parents have made it wigglers. I'm so proud of the little buggers. The other angels have actually given mom and dad here quite a bit of room. No one crosses the halfway point of the tank. Hows that for respect?! I'm sure it had nothing to do with them standing guard like they do. I can almost hear the "You shall not pass..." lol

The cleaning lessons from mom seem to have worked...

The only time I see them sort of frustrated is when the wigglers fall some down the tube. I had bagged the inlet of the filter just in case but noticed the outflow from the top was really knocking the eggs around. I decided to shut the filter off and placed in to sponge filters at the ends of the tank. Oddly enough when I was moving some thing to make room and bagging the filter the mom and dad here didnt even give my hands a second look. They twitched a bit when I got a little too close to the eggs but that was it. It was weird... my wife said "it's almost like they know what you're doing". lol
There are a couple white eggs left. They havent cleared them all away yet. but for a first run it looks like I've got at least 100 wigglers.

Not too shabby at all. At least now I think I can talk my wife into letting me get a tank or two. lolAngel breeder wanna-be

Mine used to use the filter tube, too, altho I had upright slate and driftwood for them. Cute angels and nice job they did. You're lucky you snagged a pair.

That's excellent! Congrats! Beautiful looking angels.

You really have a nice looking pair there. You should get a nice mix of light and dark marbles with good fins. You should have no trouble re homing those if you raise them well. Nice job.

Thank you all! I really wasnt expecting anything at all out of this other then a learning curve for the new parents (and me lol) so I'm really excited. Needed some good news this week!
Lady Hobbs... they're just like kids. You buy them all the cool stuff and they play with the pots and pans!
I'll keep everyone posted on their growth!Angel breeder wanna-be

Well its a good news bad news kind of day...
The bad news is the young couple ate the last of free swimmers over the weekend...
The good news is that out of the 7 angels I had in the 55 to try to get a pair I now have 3 pairs!! Another pair, both are gold angels, laid eggs but pretty much ate them the next day. The third pair, a silver and a gold marble, are cleaning a slate and each other as I type!
The first two pairs got their own 30gallon tanks today but the third have to deal for a while in the 55 with the last single angel and the small community fish I pulled from the 30 gallon tanks. I think my wife is getting ready to choke me. I dropped the idea of getting a couple more tanks. I need at least a 30 for the last pair and maybe a couple for grow out... If I get them there better be a diamond in one of them... lol I might be able to get away with it then!
So I hope the pairs in their own tanks try again. I hope it goes better without having other fish bothering them. We'll see...

I'm super excited about it! Depending on how this goes and assuming I can sell the ones I get I can see this turning into a fulltime job really fast. Dont really mind that... being disabled now I have a lot of free time. I need something to keep me busy.
