mixing different salts?
so I have a bucket of Instant Ocean and I'm barely using it. I would like to mix it with Reef Crystals to give my corals and such more of a 'complete blend'. has anyone ever mixed the two? obviously I know to dose accordingly and I would use measurements for 2.5 gallons of each into a 5g pail. just throwing it out there to see if I can mix both. they are both from the same company.

I've done that before when I bought a used set-up complete with some salt. I did not want to through it out so I mixed it with my salt and used it up that way.
No zombie out-break yet, even on full moonsIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I mixed my salts once.....
it wasn't pretty and I bit the wifes face.
Thankfully it was only a little salt so I was only half naked and I didn't break skin.
In honesty though bud. I don't see why not.
If you think about it, if you change salts completely to a new brand and do a 10% WC does your tank go crazy? no.
If you did half and half with the new brand its like a 5% with each.
I use NSW now but there has been occasions where I've not been able to collect and needed to make up some sythetic. swapped back and forth between the two with no probs at all!Used to try and keep track of my fish here.....

Reef crystals just has an added nutrient package in it's blend that the instant ocean does not have. Both are the salt basic salt mixture but one is enhanced with all of the elements. Read the Reef Crystals bag, there's a lot of goofy elements in there for a reef tank. It's good for both though.
