my poor shovel nose!!
Hello again guys!! I have very very recently. Aquired a shovelnose cat fish l. Laser night I noticed his eye was bloody and he could not see out of it at all. Today he is MISSING THE ENTIRE SIDE!!! The place I bought him from will be seeing us very shortly but my question is is there a chance he can survive? I know I I were to buy one from a store I would look over him and his one eye and I feel cruel just taking him back. I feel like he may have hit it on a rock first then, not being able to see, shredded the rest off at some point this morning. This is my first shovel nose but not my first cat. We have a silver cat and a pictus cat, plus some baby flowerhorns, a small grouping of chichlids, 2 jacks, and a placo. He is only about 3 inches long at best and is (for the moment) in a 55 gal. We are getting a 210 gal soon but if this common for these cats to sustain. An injury like this, well this is the last one I will own.

He was most likely attacked by the others in the tank.

I wouldn't be rushing back to the pet store to complain, your tank is pretty overstocked and with aggressive fish, so its not really the shops fault then that your catfish took a beating.
My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

+1. sounds like he was attacked. as long as it doesn't get fungus, it can heal up and the fish can survive with one eye.

The fault is not that of the store. With those aggressive fish in a relatively small space it is no wonder this happened. Not trying to be cruel to you, just truthful.
8 tanks running now:
1x 220 gallon, 2x55 gallon, 1x40 gallon long, 1x29 gallon, 1x20 gallon long, 1x5.5 gallon, 1x2 gallon
Gouramis, barbs, rasboras, plecos, corys, tetras, fancy guppies, swordtails, ottos, rainbow shark, upside-down catfish, snails, and Max and Sparkles the bettas.

I called my local fish expert and he has taken the fish so he can heal safely. I didn't blame the fish store by anymeans as it obviously happens in my tank. I also traded my flower horns in as well. We will see if this will help my fish tank.
