  1. Question H2O2 for fungus on eggs

I read the post on using Hydrogen Peroxide to treat Angelo eggs to prevent them from fungus.... I says use 10 - 20 ml in a 2.5 gal tank..... Am I correct to use 40 to 80 ml's for a 10 gal tank.... seems a little much?

    Thanks In Advance, Leanne

Never used peroxide for eggs but Methylene blue works very well. It also has the additional benefit of staining the eggs that are dead/unfertilized.

For eggs I just treat till the water is medium blue... lol not very scientific I know. After they hatch, do gradual water changes till the medication is cleared up.

    10 to 20 mil is correct for the 2.5. Increase the dose to 40 to 80 for a 10. I never use 10's I like the 2.5's.

You hit the tank with the HP once 30 minutes before the spawn is added. Turn on a clean air tube at a decent bubble. Place the spawn into the tank near or you can let the bubbles rub the eggs. You may do a second dose in 12 hours although I never do. You will need to add a cycled sponge to the tank just prior to hatch out, this eats up the ammonia from the egg hatch. You do not want hp in tank 24 hours prior to adding the sponge, it will foul the bio life on the sponge. I only hit the tank once and done.

MB causes gill curling, kidney failure, belly sliding and internal problems if too much is used. No more MB for me.

  6. Smile H2O2 vs MB

Ok, I am just learning how to hatch Sngels, I am seeing almost all white eggs at 3 days. Next spawn, I will use H2O2.

    Thanks A Bunch, Leanne

On a young pair it may be a few spawns until you get a good fertilization rate, perhaps as many as 6. In angelfish my opinion is that the female fish is the driver fish in the process. I feel that the aggression shown and the maturation of the male fish is driven by the release of hormone into the water by the female. This is by observation of changes in the male fish and growth pattern change in the males after females become gravid.

I feel that the male fish are actually matured by the emission of hormone by the females. I believe that this process takes a bit of time to develop and that the males do so rather gradually in some cases and in others may become fertile rather quickly.

Therefore when adapting methods it becomes critical to find a designed plan and to follow through with it with great discipline and do no variation. By staying disciplined you can read the health and maturity of the pairs and not worry that you hatch method is off or wrong.

If you get the opportunity to watch a few spawns and take notes you will notice that the fish that are sort of less interested have really poor hatch rates. I partner swap those guys a lot to find that perfect love connection.
