Best Canister Filter?
Hi all - been a while. We have been doing some remodeling and I had to dismantle my tank and get rid of my fish. Starting over and want to replace the eheim 2215 I was using with something better. Was leaning toward the Fluval 405 - about the top of my budget. Anyone have other suggestions / opinions? Thanks!
54 gallon corner tank:
6 gold barbs, 6 zebra danios, 1 pearl gourami, 4 ornate rainbows, 1 boesmani rainbow. Eheim 2215 cannister.

I've had great luck with my fluval 405, it should do you well
I would also suggest a rena XP3. It would be a little better than the 405 and (if you shop smartly) you might be able to get one for a better priceIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I'm partial to rena canisters. I've got a few and never had any issues with them, they run very quiet, and affordable. Plus you can pack a lot of media into them.

Thanks - I'll research both of them!

Whats wrong with the EHEIM? I've been extremely happy with mine.

It seems all the community is split into Fluval, Rena, and Eheim. Hehe.
My FX5 works fine, but I have no experience. Eheim will apparently last you the longest. Its Phillip, not Origami.

Aquariumguys.com have an xp3 for $133.89 on sale. Just Amazon search engine it for best prices.
I just got an xp2 myself and am happy with it so far. Very quiet and easy setup...priming the unit though is a bit time consuming, but not hard.Last edited by sir kyle; 06-10-2012 at 03:30 AM.

Petsmart had the rena xp's on clearance several months ago. They seem to be phasing that brand out of their stores. Actually petsmart seems to be getting rid of several different brands of stuff from their stores, a good time to pick up deals.

I have used all three and would not use an Eheim or Rena if you gave them to me. They don't have the flow, intake strainer, tank rim adapters, or solid build like a Fluval.
