  1. Default NEW LIFE SPECTRUM - judgement

Just bought this PRICEY food because the lady recommended it to me.
advertised as fulfilling ALL nutritional recquirements of community fish
and helping to prevent diseases such as hole in the head.

has anyone used this long term?
if so... worth the price tag?

NLS is said to be a good fish food but I believe in variety and don't think one thing does it all. The claim of preventing HITH would be iffy, at best. Several things have been claimed to cause it but none of it with scientific proof. Good diet is essential but several foods offer a good diet, IMO.

I have been using various NLS foods for approx 5 yrs and have found that all my fish do wonderfully on it. Depending on the dietary requirements I do supplement other items such as brine shrimp, blood worms etc. I good diet, water quality, good quality stock and good housekeeping will ward off any disease.

I know we have one or two members here that always feed their fish NLS, then on occasion some NLS, and especially at thanks giving and xmas they give em NLS.

Personally I don't mind it as a brand but I've always found fish do better on a varied diet.
    My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

And sprinkle it on salads, Make tea, Foot powder & garden fert...

NLS is good food, I use it. I also use Hikari, & KensFish foods As well as a variety of fresh fruits/veggies Or live depending on who I am feeding. I want to try the Repashy foods as I have heard good things about them.

There have been several debates on this board about whether NLS is merely "good" or "Neptune, Lord of the Sea's gift to fishes". I use it and it seems to work well but I'm not religiously attached to it.

+1 to kens fish I swear by it. However I also have hikari frozen foods, ocean nutrition frozen foods, NLS pellets(small and large), and omega one floating pellets and veggie flakes. These foods provide and excellent variation in diet and my fish love them. My mbuna frenzy for it no matter what I put in the tank.. but I guess that's normal lol:p
Finally reached 6 tanks... oh god, this addiction is getting serious. 75g mbuna tank, 65g gold severum, 55g OB peacock breeding colony, 30g(36x18) growout, 20 long Dwarf Alto's, 10g fry tank.

NLS is excellent fish food, but like the others have said, here, I offer my fish a balanced diet with plenty of variety. That way, they get all the nutrients they need, and they don't get bored with just one thing all the time.

In all, I feed several kinds of NLS, Hikari sinking wafers and floating pellets, Omega One Veggie Rounds, frozen variety packets, Tetra Min flakes, Spirulina flakes, freeze-dried blood worms, and Sera O-Nips (primarily for my dojos, though they like the Veggie Rounds, too, and will eat just about anything I give them.) I sometimes throw in Baby-Bites for the really tiny fish (minnows and glofish).

The results: Happy and healthy fish with good color.

OMG...how did I miss this thread?!

There's one know side effect of feeding NLS. You're fish will grow up smarter and want to go to Harvard! You'd better hope for full scholarships.
When in doubt, do a water change.

    "This ain't rocket science!"

Could you please tell me what NLS and HITH stand for?
Is it only denomination of dry food....
