    That's why I prefer gravel for the oscar and Sand for the tetras.

    if you have already sand in there, you can try guarding your filter strainer with rocks , trees,cave etc so that it becomes hidden...

    I think it's just the fighting behavior.Oscars become mature when they grow about 8-9 inches(you can expect breeding that time).you may just have to wait a little more, to get a pair i guess .
