Lady Hobbs is absolutely right about that - I had a 30 gallon that went into a mini cycle if I even walked past it with the gravel vac for about the first 6 months it was up and running.

I've got 6 in my heavily planted tank and they seem to leave the plants alone.

I have never fed them vegetables either - so they may have no idea that plants can be tasty!

I haven't heard many good things about Cycle - but a few different people have had good results from Seachem's stability or BioSpira.

You may have some form of ammonia in your tap water - the small amount of fish you have should take a while to produce any noticeable ammonia.

I would add a couple of more fish too.

What size tank do you have? Most eels will need a larger tank than the one I have now.

I use a Whisper 60 filter on my 30 gallon tank - I also use airstones in all of my tanks - except for one heavily planted tank.

Most of my Gouramis have been shy at first too.
