Click on the "55 gallon" library page link for some recommended stockings. In the left corne is a link to the forum, with various folders to address more specific concerns.

Here's a link to a cichlid forum library, which addresses tanks size and compatability questions. Spend some time reading through the forum posts, and you'll likely find just about every sort of...

Jewels won't mix well with mbuna, I ran 2 aquaclear 70's or 110's on my 55's. I used UG filter plates, with one filter drawing through a lift tube on each plate. Kept debris from collecting under the...

I tried that once, many years ago. Found a pinky finger size baby electric catfish at a dept store pet department, labelled as a common pleco. Put the wee zapper into my 55 gallon African cichid...

Bristlenose plecos are the best bet for eatingalgae/keeping the glass clean in an mbuna tank. Just make sure there's sufficient cover for the pleco to escape overactive cichlids.
-
I bred/raised hundreds of BN plecos some years ago. I started with 3 pairs in a 30 gallon tank. As long as the males had enough suitable caves to claim separate territories they were fine, but the...

Geeze, I was starting to feel like one of the last oldtimers around here, lol. I'm down to the 220 now, all the smaller tanks have been fishless for a few years. The 125 currently houses a large...

Patience, and let them grow out normally. If you want something to breed faster get some Ancistrus. They typically mature about 8 months after hatching.
-
They're slow to mature, may actually be a couple more years before they'll breed.

IME a sponge filter is much bette than airstones or bubble wands. Those always accumulate minerals and clog up over time. reducing the airflow and circulation. The ATI hydrosponge pro series are the...
-
IME the advantages of a compound bow are the reduced stress of holding at full draw for any length of time and arrow speed. The carrying weight is certainly greater, but it depends on where you're...

Awesome accomplishment, well done.
The next level challenge is to hold a hunting knife between your teeth, drop down on the deer from a tree, and cut his throat on the run through the brambles....

If they're slow-moving on substrate or objects, they're baby snails. If they're free-swimming, they're daphnia. Harmless either way, though snails can become a nuisance.
-
Any of the brichardi complex species will overcrowd the tank relatively quickly. They're very socially territorial, and the colony will just keep expanding as the older fry protect the new, smaller...

You could do a tank full of yellow lab's and demasoni in a 50. More colorful and active for a show tank than tropheus anyway.
-
Tank is simply too small for a colony. Tropheus really need to be kept in large numbers, or as a single fish. Aside from the adults there will be fry growing out too.
-
I was just wondering the same thing as I logged on.

I've had aquariums and fish nearly my whole life. They became much more interesting when I was old enough to choose my own fish, lol. I bred a number of different species of cichlids, catfish, and of...

Aside from the debris it won't do any harm. Add a clown pleco (Panaque) and it will happily eat the soft wood. Will still make a mess pooping it out, but the wood will be well used, lol.
-
I suspect the cloudiness is due to the stingrays stirring up the sand. Your canister is only rated to turn over the water volume of the tank 2x/hour. Keep in mind, that rating is with an empty...

What filter are you using? I run 3 aquaclear 110's on my 220, ran 2 on the 125, never had cloudy water. I only ever use 2 sponges in each filter for bio and mechanical filtration.
-
My favorite SA cichlid is a rare chanchito from Uruguay, Australoheros oblongum. They were only collected in the wild once, so not commonly available, but they're still being bred among hobbyists....
-
I used 2 aquaclear 110's, with the intakes drawing through the lift tubes of UG filter plates for my cichlid tanks. Just use 2 sponges in each filter to collect debris.
-
Simply add filter media or substrate from an established setup to seed the new tank with the necessary bacteria, and provide a source of ammonia to feed them.

Aside from changing color on maturity I've never heard of an auratus suddenly going darker. Sub-dominant males will sometimes show female colors to avoid conflict, but even dominant females never...
