A 55g tank weighs with water and gravel and such about 600lbs. Thats not easy to move. I'd bring the 55g home ;) and put the 20g in your school.

One fantail goldfish could live in a 10g for several years. White cloud minnows or rosy red minnows would be the best option I'd say. And rosy red minnows are like a nickel each.

You could put like 3 rosy red minnows and a few shrimp. Very hardy, low maintenance setup.

Khuli loaches or a dwarf ram. Khuli loaches clean the bottom and rams just stay there mostly.

You could put in a few shrimp, or a fancy goldfish and if they dont get along, just return him. I'd say get like 5 cherry shrimp and one fancy goldfish and monitor closely.

Rosy red minnows would work. Or maybe a betta in a warm room. Or a feeder goldfish if you eventually move it.

I know price can be a problem, but its a good idea to get like a 10g tank. Many more options. Try craigslist! A 2g you could pull off maybe 3 white cloud minnows, or a betta. Also shrimp and snails...

Crawfish generally are mean. You could if you really want to put rubber bands around their claws but thats kind of unnatural. Try cherry shrimp, much more community.

Ask your LFS if they can keep him for a few days. If you know the owner, I bet he'll do it. Give him a couple dollars and your oscar would be better off than in an ice chest.

A really cool fish I saw on liveaquaria.com is the diamond head neon tetra. Maybe you would like them.
