When a tank is fully cycled, you can empty all the water out and add new water and the tank will still be cycled because the good bacteria are attached to the filteration and ornaments/gravel...

This happens to me also, tho i think it is a good thing.

I clean my filter first.
Then do a water change and all the food scraps and poo and junk float around in my tank.
I empty about %30-40%...

Do Fishless Cycling!!!

It will save you so much stress and money.
