I just kinda maneuver mine in. And add just enough gravel/flourite on top to keep it down. Never had a problem with min lifting up, although mine isn't very dense yet. I'll get some pictures up later...

I don't have a means to test for K right now, but I am seeing some signs (I think) older leaves, yellowish/brown spots, pin-holes.

we had about 300-400 koi in a pond that covered about 1/4 a acre. This was in Cleveland, and we had many many winters with 18" of ice covering hte pond easily.

It was fun when we went out and fed...

I had koi in my old pond 16-18" easily. They do require a large space.
